this thing again

So, I did the whole NaBloPoMo or National Blog Posting Month last November and decided to give it a whirl again this year. Hopefully, it will be the kick in the pants that I need to start being better about this thing. Because, I, the person who loves birthdays and anniversaries and all yearly celebrations of events... totally missed the one year mark of this blog.

Oh the shame. I'm so sorry, rizado! I think it might have had something to do with the fact that it passed just around the time that I was newly single but that is no excuse- a three year relationship ended half through last November and I was still able to blog away. Whatever the reason, I apologize.

Now, if you've been with me the whole way, you might have noticed that things have changed. I used to have some semi regular features- best of my blog roll, favorite stumble upon, thematic timelines of my life- but I have done any of those in months. Instead, the blog became a bit more personal, while still being fairly guarded. So I open it up to you, my readers- is there anything you would like to see in the following year? Resurected features? Something new? More of the same?

And to those in know- I'm thinking of filling up a certain bucket more regularly too.

you would think with my love of structure and schedules, i could keep to one of my own making. but the whole weekly stumble and best of blog features fell off the face of rizado a long time ago. so i'm no longer calling it weekly stumble, but random stumble that i post whenever i feel like it, especially when i've talked about tv enough and don't have the energy to come up with something else.

though that is a bit wordy.

i'm not totally white- there are a few things i'm not in love with, like the sunday new york times, manhattan, and... um, that may be it. because i love living by the water, apologies, kitchen gadgets, sushi, arrested development, juno, recycling, traveling, apple products, the colbert report, wine, yoga, tea, and the list goes on and on.

do yourself a favor and spend the rest of your three day weekend learning all about the predictable tendencies of the caucasian race.

this isn't technically a stumble because karel actually sent me here. and there went all hopes of a productive afternoon.

human clock and calendar

two for one deal this week! i can't imagine how much time it took to amass all the photos necessary for this project, but i can imagine how much it was. everyone is so smiley!

as you may have guessed before even clicking the links, the human clock is website that tells the time through photos of people all over the world, holding up times of numbers found in the landscape. and of course, you can set it to your time.

human calendar is much the same, except that everyone is looking at today's date in the calendar, so the photos change every day!

you can get portable calendars for google homepage, websites, with widgets for mac dashboard coming soon. as soon as i figure out how to do something fancier that twitter, i'm putting the calendar on this baby.

it is also just fun to have the clock open in another tab and check the photos out every few minutes. you know, in case you have a short attention span and need distraction. not that i know anything about that.

so, it turns out that it is pretty simple to put things in the sidebar. enjoy the calendar :)

i promise that...

i will be done with finals in 27.5 hours and stop talking about it.

i will replace the happy curlsgiving graphic in the next few days.

my posts will go back to some sort of normalcy, just in time for the holidays to come in and mess them all up again.

i will keep my talk of advent calendars to a minimum.

i will continue to post things from youtube with increasing frequency. sorry if this makes your soul hurt.

things i've bought that i love
as you might be able to tell, i do like to shop. but because i'm a grad student, hoping to make a career in a non-profit field, i have to do a lot of vicarious shopping.

in comes the interweb!

i love scrolling through etsy shops, looking at online deals, and of course, talking with karel about any purchases she's made lately or cute clothes she's seen.

but it isn't enough to just SEE things i like, i want to see what things other people buy too! this blog fulfills this need so perfectly.

yes! it is kelly from the office! she's also one of the writers on the show and the hilarity comes through in 'things that i love'. so go read it and revel in the fact that someone you watch on thursday nights (or saturday afternoons on the internet) has a blogger account too.

back on track

so, i guess i kinda let my weekly posts kinda slide. eak, sorry!

so, my weekly stumble for the last weekend in nov 2007 is

dlisted

there are a number of blogs that i check everyday and then there are blogs that i check MULTIPLE TIMES every day. dlisted certainly does its part to make sure i'm up on my celeb gossip and sufficiently distracted from being productive.

and you have to check multiple times a day to get all the daily features (one blogger who can hold up the end of their posting bargin). birthday sluts, caption contests EVERYDAY, morning wood, slut of the day/week/month/YEAR. le sigh, seriously. check it now. and then again in 2 hours.

i love it for being catty, having obvious favs, and generally trolling the internet for all my celeb news i could want. i used to read about four or five celeb blogs but it just got to be too much and there was a fair amount of overlap, so i whittled it down to my beloved dlist.

doesn't hurt that it shares its name with a fan tab show.

another week, another stumble.

so, i know that it is posted in my blogs list, but i really consider this much more of an occasional delight than a daily read. and since i get to make and break the rules, the weekly stumble of this first full week of november is

bsc headquaters

to the females in my peer group, bsc was a large part of our lives. don't deny it, it was. i tried for years to amass all these glorious paperbacks and hated the numeric holes on my bookshelf. and then there were super specials, which took up so much more space in my heart and pocketbook. i asked for bsc books for every gift giving holidays for YEARS. ah the good times.

except.

they were pretty crappy. which i didn't realize until just recently.

re-reading them- or more accurately, letting someone else do all the leg work and just enjoying the fruits of her labor- is providing me with almost as much joy as the books themselves once did. i find myself remembering exact passages and book covers, that dreaded repeating chapter 2, and stacy's diabetes. which is such a big deal! and i have no reason why!

put the best part of all- besides the weirdo time warp stoneybrook seems to be in- is the OUTFITS. seriously, if you can't find the time to read all the archives (and i don't know why you wouldn't make the time, but whatevs), just skim it for outfit descriptions. brings you back to the days when leggings were the height of fashion.

sorry to be a little late. this crazy thing called school and paper writing kinda came up. i promise that it will happen again. so, without further ado, my weekly stumble is

i have to say that i've never actually bought any of these cards because my card buying habits leave much to be desired. they are usually belated in nature and while i try to find funny/thoughtful ones, 9 times out of 10, i buy blank ones and put my own funny/thoughtful comments in.

but.

these cards rock.

instead of those cards that show really attractive people saying really sweet things, they are illustrated with realistic looking people* and convey what is often on your mind.

the melancholy subject matter of unrequited love is tempered by the fact that none of the people have arms and never walk on the ground but float around. oh and sometimes there are naked boobs. though at first, i thought they were carrying muffins or cupcakes.

you can go all the way back to the beginning to get a full taste of the series, but basically it is an artist who is deeply in love with his muse. she has a boyfriend and doesn't want him but also doesn't like it when he dates other women. it is a little twisted. and sad. but funny too, especially because of the no arms. hence the title.
