I can haz blogz reederz!

I never thought the day would come- I made it onto iambossy! Actually, I first typed that as "iamboozy" and while I am not currently in that state NOW (nor is she. or at least I hope not. It is in the morning. Though it is always 5 o'clock somewhere) I thought it was apt. Whew longest parenthetical EVA.

But welcome if you are clicking over from Bossy! This is just what I needed to jump start my Monday. That and a jug of wine. I mean....

Another catchall, this time with good deeds!

Another bullet point post.

- One of my best friends EVA is Barb. We both worked at Starbucks in Boston and both left the city for grad school, though sadly to opposite sides of the country. She's funny and beautiful and smart and quick and super. She also has MS and each year, she walks in her area's MS walk. Because she is the amazing woman that she is, she always gets a ton of donations. You should do the same. Read her story and be moved here.

- Lauren, one of my roommates, was out of town for the past week. As much as Sam and I missed her, we took advantage of her absence to have an OBSCENE amount of cilantro. Seriously, four days in a row. Monday was curry and tilapia with... cilantro. Tuesday was edmame and rice paper wraps with orange cayenne chicken, carrots, radishes, and... cilantro. Wednesday, tofu and broccoli with soba noodles... with cilantro pesto. And Thursday, butternut squash coconut milk curried soup... with cilantro. YUM. SO. GOOD. I'm happy to have Lauren home but honestly, I love cilantro and would continue to eat it if we had any more in the house.

- If you are friends with me on the 'book, then you know that the past few days have been all about Mika. I know I'm late to the Mika loving, but man oh man, how I love that little suspender wearing Lebanenese American expat curly headed singer! AH! Here you go.

Estoy entusiasmada!

Or, I'm excited! Either way works for me.

Six years ago, I took a flamenco dance class. And my arms are still sometimes sore. Seriously, what a workout. Eenywho, I love it all- the big dresses, the clapping, the stomping, the somber faces, the guitars. Maybe not the exceedingly long hair and fingernails of the men, but otherwise, I get behind it all.

Just got my ticket to see this in February and I'm PUMPED. It is going to be AMAZING, even if I'm a bit far away from the stage. I won't really care. Because flamenco- I loves it.

ETA- Anyone interested in seeing Patton Oswalt in DC in February? I can get tickets for $16!

naps

I think I've finally made up for my election night fatigue.

I slept from 4:30pm until almost 7pm on my parents' super lush couch. Maybe it is just me, but there is just something extra restorative about napping in your parents' house. I could possibly be slightly allergic to something in their house that knocks me out, but I think it is just something about going home.

I am, however, REALLY missing the my DVR. You give someone the ability to pause live TV and they can hardly function when faced with normal TV.

grumble

TBS, when you put a movie on demand, you don't include commercials. I want to be able to watch "Last Holiday" uninterrupted.

If I only had 3 weeks left to live, I wouldn't be spending my Friday nights watching Queen Latifah movies and doing research, but I have to fortune to not have any brain tumors causing me to seize the day.

What would you do if you only had 3 weeks left to live? I think I would travel as much as I could with as many friends, perhaps go on a bender or two, get a tattoo, eat like a glutton. Mmmm, gluttony.

05 November 2008

WOOHOO!!

God, the tears last night. The. tears.

Good ones, I assure you! I cried during both John McCain and Barack Obama's speeches. It made me miss the McCain from 2000, the one who was truely a maverick. It made me feel such immense hope for the future. There is such a sense of just sheer happiness in the air, I can't stand it.

This term is going to be intense and we've got to help out our president. He's a leader but we've got to be ready to be led.

04 November 2008

broken, but important, record

As you can tell from my nifty reader over there on the left (yeah for new features!), I'm not the only person using the interwebs to encourage you to vote. VOTE. I can't tell you how many times I've teared up in the last few days over the inspiring words of one Mr. Barack Obama. While on one hand, I can't wait for the campaigning to be over, I am also incredibly anxious about tonight and the upcoming four years.

Because I work in DC but live in VA and knew that the lines were going to be crazy, I voted absentee in person last week, still waiting about two hours for the privilege to support the Obama/Biden ticket. And while it means that today I got to sleep to a reasonable hour and not worry about rushing to the polls after work, a part of me is a bit sad that I won't be part of this hostoric election, not the same way that those of you who are voting today.

But I still got to vote! And you should too. Even if you support a scary ticket that will surely lead us into a position where the rest of the world hates us even more. And while a McCain/Palin White House would be a nightmare, it would certainly push me to really find a job/school abroad.

I hope that's a silver lining I won't have to rely on.

i think i'm going to have some for breakfast

So, I'm trying to remember how I first found out about Pop Waffle, but I can't. The awesomeness just clouds my mind.

I'm not sure what I love the most- the crayon drawings, the pop culture references, fun new music, renderings of her dad. It is just too great for words. And I realize I'm probably way behind the times- looks like she's been doing this since mid 2007. But I've made up for lost time by watching all 22 pop waffle volumes over one day.

Like I said, obsessed.

And you should be too.

The one that started it all.

not even kidding

I JUST TALKED TO TED DANSON. ON THE PHONE. I THINK I MAY FAINT.

quite possibly the best picture, EVER

i have no idea why steve guttenberg looks like he is running a carwash for the jonas brothers, but i love it. makes me want to watch short circut.

little red cookbook, little red cookbook

i saw eddie izzard last night.

i screamed.

i clapped.

i clasped emily's hand.

i behaved in the the most schoolgirlish way i have ever in my life.

so totally worth it.

and now i'm beating myself up about it because if i could have waited around for an hour- ONE MEASLY HOUR- i could have met the man that spawned these:

27 April 2008

perhaps i'm cooler than i thought

i've always painted myself as pretty nerdy. i mean, i still read young adult novels that have talking woodland animals in them, i love disco unironically, played magic the gathering in college, and considered becoming a librarian.

but then i find myself sitting in a cafe on sunday afternoon, reading the new york times, sipping tea, listening to the nutcracker suite on my macbook with my side swept bangs and glasses, in layered shirts and cardigan and it hits me...

the cool facade is firmly in place.

but somehow, i don't think i'm fooling anyone- i still know all the words to ABBA's "fernando". mainstream coolness and intimate details of sweden's greatest export can't coexist.

totally fine by me- i'll keep my eurostars and you can have your status. i LOOK cool and that's all that matters anyway.

13 April 2008

newsflash

i have an obsessive personality. i know, nothing new there. but really, i go through these phases where i can't get enough of certain things.

current trends-
"that's what she said jokes"- this trend comes and goes with alarming frequency

jeopardy!- though my love of trivia never dies out, my need for this particular show is especially strong right now.

cheeseburgers- i know i mentioned this recently, but honestly, my burger consumption is getting particularly ridiculous. and if you include any foodstuffs that include both bacon and cheese- well, we really have a problem on our hands.

michael bublé "feeling good"- i know i'm not allowed to post any more videos but look at all these words i wrote! so it isn't like i'm trying to avoid the work of a blog post with a simple youtube grab. but back to the song. when i found it on friday afternoon, something inside of me came to life and i've listened to it perhaps more than 25 times since then. no probably more. because while i was doing homework all day yesterday, i would just keep hitting "replay".... "replay".... "REPLAY"

it just fulfills all my needs of wanting to be a nightclub singer from a bygone era. because yes, i have put my hair back in a twist, danced around, and practiced singing it in the mirror. with arm movements and all.

ich liebe

'nuff said.

02 April 2008

be still my heart

whenever i can't think of what to write, i invariably turn to karel. you should be used to this by now.

"if i could have a relationship with a fictional tv character, whom would it be?"

dr. jack hodgins from bones.

sure, he's a little on the short side for me, but he's ridiculously smart, quick witted and looks good both with and without facial hair (i like a man with a versatile face). it doesn't hurt that he's mad loaded- i mean, money isn't the main reason i love him but it doesn't hurt. also, he has the libido of a teenage boy and i want someone who wants to constantly make out with me/do it on a historic bed. (sorry, family members and reading public who don't like to read about my sexual urges).

27 March 2008

when you smile at me, you know exactly what you do

michael buble, you lovely canadian italian crooner, i would be your everything. emily blunt is a lucky woman.

maybe i should go on that starve myself and then when i think i'm going to pass out, eat a cube of cheese diet. i do love cheese. and it got her a guy to sing about her.

tomorrow, i'm going to buy myself a block of havarti.

09 March 2008

superman

no matter how much alice and i practiced when i went out to visit her in january, we couldn't have gotten nearly as good as those incarcerated.

08 March 2008

whew, finally

so i was going to do my first utterz talking post because blogger was being an asshat but then it decided to behave. go blogger, you are stupendous!

happy international women's day! everyone should do something fun to celebrate. i had lunch with my friend juliet (it doesn't matter that i didn't realize it was IWD at the time) and just got tickets with emily to see eddie izzard in may. TRES excited.

but a true celebration of IWD wouldn't be complete without including you in my obsession with this international female. i want bangs so badly.

03 March 2008

oh snap

this is what happens. i move and all of a sudden i'm busy with classes! work! meetings! MAKING DINNER FOR THE FIRST TIME IN SIX MONTHS! watching tv with roommates!

as soon as i complete my room, i promise pictures. i still need some things on the walls and curtains up, but i'm *pretty* proud of my room. it looks adult mainly because of my grandparents' bedroom set. amazing what matching furniture does.

until then-

25 February 2008

oh kate

so far, this season of lost... meh. it's ok. i mean, i'm certainly not going to stop watching it any time soon but it just isn't grabbing me in the same way. it could be me. maybe i've changed as a lost viewer. *shrug*

perhaps i should call up my local canadian live links circa 2004 to connect live with kate. maybe ms lilly can help put the pep back in my lost step.
