In this day and age, why do I have to argue with someone about turning off the light when you leave a room? I don't care if it is an energy saving light bulb, energy is energy, all goes to our bill and destruction of the earth, etc.
TURN OFF THE GOD FORSAKEN LIGHT.
In other non hippie rage news, I'm about to wash my hair for the first to see what it looks like curly. Will report back soon.

BLESS ME
A what point did saying "Bless you" or some other similar remark fall out of fashion? Is it just me? And I don't want to be gender biased but it seems that it is mostly men of my recent acquaintance who don't say it- new roomies, new friends, etc. who are more than perfectly nice, very considerate in every other way, but when I let a big one fly- and those of you who have had the pleasure of experiencing one of my sneezes first hand know that they can be EPIC- not a word!
I guess in the grand scheme of things, not having a person say "Salud" is a small complaint. But it is one I have all the same.

rough start
my halloween is not off to the best start.
well, that's not entirely true.
i've carved not one, but two, wondrous pumpkins. i've already attended a costume party and was a hit. tonight, i bought a Maleficent headdress that will provide YEARS of quality last minute costume options.
but then i tried to apply scary fake nails. and after they begun to fall off, i gave up and pulled them off. and have spent the last 45 minutes trying desperatly to get the dried glue off my fingers. because even though this adhesive isn't strong enough to hold thin sheets of plastic to my nails, it is doing its darndest to stay put.
and somewhere in my frantic attempts to get this shit off. my. HANDS, i stubbed a toe and didn't notice until there was blood all over my foot. and now that hurts.
and woe is me :(
but i must rally, for i've straightened my hair and will don fake bling and a ballon baby in the morn!

no title seems to fit quite right
so, i don't do personal details here but sometimes, life has a way of being just too overwhelming.
i'm not going to go into it to say other than i had a boyfriend for five months and now i don't. i'm sad. my face is red. but i have fantastic friends and family.
and i'll be ok. maybe if i keep on saying it, it will eventually be true.

should i...
get an 500 texts a month for $5 opposed to my current plan of 250 texts for $5?
keep in mind that between sent (80) and received (180) texts, i've almost hit my limit and i have two weeks left before my next cycle begins. and it is $.20 for each extra text.
these are the dilemmas that weigh heavy on my mind.
--update
well, i did it. i made the plunge. i now can send 500 messages a month to non verizon people. because i have unlimited IN messaging. sweet jesus, i'm going to be like a 13 year old girl with my phone. someone help me.

strong desires
to pick up and take a vacation, anywhere. to spend money i don't have. to eat crabs everyday, even though i know they aren't sustainable. to get my permit but also to remain license-less. to get my hair cut. to dye my hair, though i can't decide on darker or lighter. to get new glasses. to buy new pants. to do yoga everyday. to clean my computer, both externally and internally. to be a few weeks in the future, when my fall schedule will hopefully be set and i will be a little less foggy brained about everything.

money, money, money
must be funny, in a rich man's world.
so, not only have i recently seen mamma mia!- fantastic! amazing! it will change your life... er, your afternoon! but i also recently discovered something a bit disturbing about my financial situation. in that it is dire. money is always such a FUN and STRESS FREE and not at all UNCOMFORTABLE topic to discuss, so i'm not going to get into to it too much just to say that i'm going to have to seriously reevaluate budget stuff and perhaps get another job. on top of my part time one. on top of my internship. and on top of my fall class.
BEING AN ADULT IS SIMPLY THE BEST.
does your mother know you are out? because if she did, she would probably tell you to go home and save some dough.

impending partnership
i've just done the unthinkable.
i reapplied to starbucks.
now, for those of you not in the know, i worked at starbucks for three years in boston. three years filled with irate customers, scalding coffee, coworker drama. it wasn't all horrible- some of my dearest boston friends were fellow starbucks chumps and i met my fair share of lovely customers who could totally brighten my day. but i would be lying if i said that i'm happy about my return to the service world.
where bitches make me cry about the temperature of their soy, the aroma of overflowing grease traps welcomes me first thing in the morning, and christmas music starts playing the day after thanksgiving.
i'm not giving up on the job hunt but as i'm moving in less than a month, i want some source of income to be settled. so, in you walk into a starbucks and see me in a green apron, please be nice to me.
or else i will decaf you.

if it isn't one thing...
so, new housing is squared away and i couldn't be happier about it! i didn't really want to do the whole random roommate thing again, even though it worked out pretty well in boston. but now, i have to find a way to finance my new digs.
sweet sassy molasses-y, do i hate the job hunt.
i'm torn between finding a museum job that could help me get an actual career going after i graduate and being an office bitch somewhere to just pay the bills. so i just apply for them all and hope that i'm sending out the right resumes. right now, i'm trying to not work on weekends (wishful thinking, i know) but i don't know how much longer i'm going to hold out before i return to the dreaded starbucks. blah.
all that being said- if you know of any part time positions in metro accessible dc, please pass them along to me.
in other news, this blog is starting to suck. i think i am coming down with something (like everyone else) and my mind is in a bit of a fog. i need to resurrect my weekly stumble and best of blog roll installments. i am also going to start going through my tags and plump up the ones that only have a few posts, to round out your knowledge of me just a bit more.
i wish it was spring so that a) i could wear all my dresses b) be settled in my new place c) have a job d) well, it would be spring and that is always nice. off to daydream of cherry blossoms in class.

my mind feels like is has been scrubbed clean
and while this can be refreshing, it does make writing two papers and any blog posts a tad difficult.
so today, instead of my sparkling wit and turn of phrase, i give you a man with a pointer and a large pad.
charts are rad.

losing it
happy mlk day, everyone! it is very strange for me to actually have the day off in celebration- at haverford, our first day of classes in the spring semester was always today and then i worked at starbucks, where i just worked all the time. i enjoy bank holidays.
what i don't enjoy is looking for apartments.
i know, it is something that will end and i will find a place. i know that i'm luckier than most (and much luckier than when i first moved to boston) in that i am at home and don't have to be out by a specific date, relieving some of the stress of having to find a place to hang my hat asap.
that being said, i just want a place to live, now. because i'm spending way too much time thinking about this and not focusing on finding a part time job. or securing a summer internship. or doing my school work. or enjoying my free time.
i have a dream that i will have a new apartment lined up by the end of the week.*
*that is a bit blasphemous, isn't it? but seriously, i do dream about having a new apt soon. so it isn't a lie. still, i probably shouldn't draw analogies between my struggle for affordable housing to the civil rights movement.

omg
i've been so studious this afternoon, i almost forgot to post before class! eak, like i'm a real graduate student during finals. quick, take a picture, it will be gone in a flash.
i think i deserve a medal or at least a day off for my post yesterday- i think i'm beginning to develop carpool tunnel syndrome. haha i know, it's carpal but i always thought is was carpool and it made sense to me. carpooling is more efficient, like multi tasking. but multi tasking can make you too busy and you can hurt yourself. or something like that.
all of that is to say that i'm totally phoning it in today with this.
enjoy.
NSFW.

down in the mouth
i have a bad case of the mondays, times a headache. i don't want to be all mopey/get too personal, but i will say that things aren't the best for me right now, in terms of my tear ducts and the like.
i will be ok- i'm always ok, given time- but time hasn't passed since this monday yet, so i'm still kinda shaky.
if you are one of the few people who read this who get to see me in everyday life, a hug would be most appreciated. you might want to come prepared with a burping cloth, as i might leave some snot on your shoulder.
ps. i have to say my resolve in academia is picking up- my mom asked me if i wanted to go shopping today instead of going to school and i turned her down! i figure that since i have no job or anything else going on right now, school is where it should be. go nerd!

jim dale! on tv! i think i may cry!
so, jim dale of harry potter books on tape fame is the narrator of 'pushing daisies'. i think i may be in love with a new show. sorry, nbc, but if you let me watch '30 rock' or 'my name is earl', we may not be in this situation.
but don't worry.
i can love you all.
just let me watch you for free.
and please, do not talk to me about the strike. i may cry. just pay them, already! they are witty! they are funny! they make me laugh! they make me cry (though, really, that isn't all that hard. bad commercials make me cry. don't count that one.)
oh! and did you know that there are prizes associated with NaBloPoMo. because i did not. if possible, i'm more excited. crafts do that to me.

k i'm slow
so i wanted to put a linked badge to NaBloPoMo but i'm super slow and i can't figure out how to do it. apparently, i need to use a classic template or host it through another site- i don't know! ah! what have i done! but then i realized i could just link it through a post. not nearly as fancy, but hey, what are you going to do. i'm going to deal with it.
major pet peeve.
having to clean up my own eyebrows after i have paid a professional to wax them for me. LE SIGH. i mean, honestly. i didn't realize i had to touch them up until 15 minutes after i left the salon and it made me feel good that i didn't leave that extra dollar tip. i just knew somehow.

ugh.
you do not want to spend your friday night convincing one of you dearest friends to get tickets to san fran- only to wake up on saturday and find out that you can't get tickets the same day as her. really, it is not a fun process.
ps, don't realize that you haven't done enough reserach for your paper three days before it is due. because it does not make you feel good. or motivate you to write said paper.
